Here is a design I have been working on over the summer in my Houdini FX software and this will form the reference throughout the painting process. The painting will be a 48″ x 48″ oil on canvas and I will be starting work on drawing this onto the canvas from around mid September. This painting is a collaboration with photographer Eric Kellerman who has kindly allowed me the use of one of the photos from his ‘Box Nudes’ series. By sampling the photo of the nude in Houdini FX I can have some control over how the geometric shapes are formed. The process is about 30% controlled and 70% random. So while I build and program the machine that will generate the image, it’s that randomness that I love, by just tweaking a few variables there are millions of possibilities from each set-up that I create.
